Class One
Welcome to Reception, also known as Class 1. Here are a few photos of us having fun and learning new things with our friends.
Trips
Our last topic was about Amazing Animals so recently visited Hartpury College to see all their animals. We had a tour of the enclosures outside, saw the reptile room and fish. Our favourites were the Meerkats.
Outdoor Education
We take part in weekly Outdoor Education sessions where the children learn all about nature and our environment. We have lovely grounds including a forest school area where the children can explore, build dens and be creative with nature. Here we are exploring the frost and ice outside.
We recently visited Hartpury for a few sessions in their Forest School Area. Their students organised fun and engaging games for us to join in with. The children really enjoyed their time there and loved going on the mini bus.
Cooking
We have a fantastic cooking suite in our school and the children love using it. We made stained glass window biscuits as Christmas tree decorations and made wild garlic scones. We also tried some Chinese food when learning about Luna New Year and learnt how to use chopsticks.
Using Technology
We have Ipads for the children to use in a range of ways. We teach them how you take photos, research information and use apps and games to consolidate what they have be taught in phonics or maths. This year the children have loved taking photographs so much they have their own name tag to include within their photographs along with their model or drawing then it is uploaded to their own photo albums.
Snack Time
Each day in Class 1 we have snack time in class. This is a great time for us to develop our communication skills by speaking and listening to our friends.
Sometimes we have Toast Tuesday and practice our spreading and cutting skills. Sometimes snacks have letters or words on the skins for us to practice our Phonics skills too!
As the Christmas festival is a big part of Christianity we like to teach the children about the Christmas story and make a Nativity production with Class 2 for parents to watch.
